This Woman Wanders

Trip Interrupted: Delaware

I thought for Cahlean’s last day in my neck of the woods, we’d explore a bit of Delaware.  While we were all for photographing, we’d also spent a lot of time—basically whenever it was too dark to photograph– having a What Not To Wear marathon and both being thrifty and maybe slightly eccentric in our clothing choices, we wanted to wander some thrift stores and flea markets.  Dover has a flea market, several thrift stores and is roughly an hour from my house.  It seemed as good a starting point as any.

Bonus points for Dover also having Espresso-N-Ice.

I don’t know why, but I’d only been to Espress-N-Ice once before and had promptly forgotten about it. Maybe I wasn’t spending enough time in Delaware to keep it in mind.  But, they have excellent coffee and the staff was friendly on both visits.  My only complaint was that, as a vegan, I didn’t really have any food options, save for a small container of pre-packaged oatmeal.  I’ll remember next time thought that there is also a grocery store in the shopping center.  Anyhoo….my soy latte was delicious (and quite pretty!) and I’ll definitely be returning on my next visit to Dover.

Fueled by oatmeal and coffee, we wandered around flea markets and thrift stores until mid afternoon, when we found our way to Cape Henlopen State Park.  Located near Rehobeth Beach, its a fun place with campgrounds, trails, beaches and the remnants of World War II era Fort Miles, including an observation tower one can climb for 360 degree views of the entire park.

As sunset neared, we found our way down to the beach. The sunset started out beautiful and then blossomed into a 360 degree sunset, finally showing Cahlean what a Delmarva Sunset was capable of.

If I can figure out how to embed my (bad) video of the sunset, I’ll do so.  In the meantime: YouTube (playable in 1080HD)
