Minnesota!

Saturday I rolled into St. Cloud, Minnesota late in the day.  I hadn’t had a lot of sleep, so did little more than accompany my friend Cahlean on a walk with her three lovely dogs and talk for hours.  We hadn’t seen each other since the previous fall- there was plenty to talk about!

We were up before 5:30 and out the door by 6 on Sunday morning and we took advantage of the many hours left in the day.  We started on the Mississippi River then decided that we would visit as many lakes as we could in the area know as “Land of a Thousand Lakes”.  We saw dozens.  We photographed landscapes, creekscapes, riverscapes, fieldscapes, townscapes, bald eagles, cows, geese and horses.

We stumbled across a festival in a town of maybe 200 people and wandered among the crowd as people played bingo, won raffles, ate fried dough and listened to a lively, twangy country band.  We explored abandoned properties and dozens of dirt country roads.

And we ended our day at sunset, photographing the sunset and tossing the ball for Cahlean’s endlessly enthusiastic dog, Axle.

We had a bit of a lazy morning to make up for yesterday’s adventures and I departed midday to head further westward.  I’m spending the night in Bismarck, North Dakota and will likely head to Montana tomorrow.
